If you are missing teeth,
you are familiar with the embarrassment, discomfort and inconvenience of
dentures and partials. The simple pleasures of laughter, eating foods
you love, and awakening with a smile can be enjoyed once again.
Dental Implants are a preferred alternative with the stability like that
of natural teeth. The look, feel, and function of Dental Implants
eliminates the frustrations associated with dentures and partial
dentures. Your confidence, comfort, and self-esteem will be restored, as
well as your feeling of “wholeness.”
Dr. Atkinson is highly-trained and experienced in the diagnosis and
placement of Dental Implants. Once he determines the type of treatment
that is best suited for your needs, he will answer all of your questions
thoroughly.
Our office is dedicated to providing you with a complete understanding
of the care that will be given to achieve the best result for your
needs.

- The most common cause of tooth loss,
gum disease, begins painlessly. It is not until your teeth have
been compromised that problems become apparent. As the condition
worsens, you may experience sore or bleeding gums, discomfort in
the mouth, or persistent bad breath. Eventually, tooth loss
begins.
In many cases, gums can be restored to a healthy state and your
natural teeth saved. The extent of your treatment will depend upon
the degree of disease present. Today’s techniques, however, make
gum therapy successful for many advanced stages.
In some cases, we are able to provide non-surgical treatment to
successfully return your gums to good health. Once your mouth has
been soundly restored, we will structure a program to maintain
healthy teeth and gums.
-
- Research has found a link to the
bacteria of gum disease to other serious health problems in the
body. These include heart disease, stroke, memory loss, preterm
and low birth weight babies, and diabetes. Like other diseases
that begin silently in the body, gum disease should be detected at
the earliest possible stage and treated successfully. By
protecting the health of your teeth and gums, you will protect
your overall health as well.

- Because a Periodontists is
specially-skilled in techniques that involve gum tissue and other
soft tissues in the mouth, protecting your oral health and
enhancing the appearance of your smile are options that bring many
to our office.
Receded Gums - Gum disease is not the only cause of gum
recession. Improper brushing techniques can separate protective
gum tissue from teeth at the gum line, exposing tooth roots. This
detracts from one's smile as well as increases the susceptibility
of infection. Often, cold and hot foods and beverages create
uncomfortable sensations. Gums also recede when one's bite is
misaligned. When the top teeth do not properly meet the lower
teeth, teeth move from their straight-up position and lean inward.
This causes gum tissue to stretch and pull away from the tooth.
Gummy Smiles - Some
people resist a big smile because too much gum shows, detracting
from the appearance of their smile. This can be adjusted by
decreasing the amount of gum above the lip line. The procedure is
comfortably performed in our office and begins a process that
allows the gum to gradually shrink over the course of several
weeks. Discomfort is minimal and the results are beautiful.
Aesthetic Enhancements
- We often work in conjunction with Cosmetic and Restorative
Dentists to alter the height of the gum line for a
more-aesthetically pleasing result with crowns. Taking into
consideration your facial shape and features, aesthetic dentistry
can provide a look that complements your appearance far beyond
your smile!
